The IUCCE Note at the Third USF in Surabaya

The Urban Social Forum (USF) is a melting pot for the social actors, local government, academics, social workers, culture endorser and youth communities to collaborate and gather, in order to build the city and provide solutions from the complexity of the urban problems today. The third Urban Social Forum was held in Surabaya on December 19, 2015, which was first held in Solo in 2013 and became an annual event. The most interesting thing about this event is, this event is independent and does not carry the name of any agency, as well as its implementation is voluntarily, the sources which are present in this forum, are not given the pay check but it is because of their concern about the issue of city problems.

The tagline on this forum is “is another city possible?” it invites the participants to join the conference in finding the other ways to organize, design and manage the cities in Indonesia. The current trend is the development of the city is the duty of the government, through this forum, John Taylor, Kota Kita co-founder, engages not always to rely on the government to resolve all the problems of in the urban areas, the changes can be done by anyone or any group.

The Initiative Urban for Climate Change and Environment (IUCCE) participated in the third Urban Social Forum (USF) in 2015, which was held in UNTAG Surabaya, on Saturday (12/19/2015). At that event, the IUCCE instead of as participants had the opportunity to open a booth in order to introduce the IUCCE and also the 100RC Program Semarang to the participants of the USF which is being implemented by the IUCCE.

In these activities, IUCCE asks participants who visited the IUCCE booth, to give an opinion on the meaning of ” Tangguh “, which is mean ”  “Resilient ?? Let’s Talk About It!! “. Many opinions were given, among others: “It says if Tangguh will resist from the Pressure”, “The city is Tangguh  if the electricity is not blackout “, “Tangguh if strong and able to face the challenges” and “Tangguh if  Independent”.

The IUCCE engages the public to keep the environment and urban planning changes. This is indicated by introducing the IUCCE program, which always keeps the environment through the programs that have been undertaken and is being undertaken. The innovations which is the IUCCE develops, has received a positive response from the public. This is the proof from the number of attendants at the IUCCE booth. Based on this USF activity, the IUCCE will continue to cooperate with the communities and other agencies in order to introduce IUCCE.
