Policy alternatives in anticipating climate-forced migration in Semarang City

Abstract

Climate change is a serious global challenge in the 21st century and it requires changes to a more anticipatory urban development management model. Further climate change, this implies changes in sea level elevation can affect the environmental conditions of a city in a period certain time. Migration of those affected by climate change (climate-forced migration) to an important issue to study. The migration took place because of the area as a place to live communities, especially in coastal areas are inundated as a result of rising sea levels. City Semarang has a coastal area which is very prone to inundation. In the midst of mitigation efforts and adaptation which is still full of uncertainty, potential migration as one of the right efforts for dealing with prolonged disasters and it is felt that there is no longer the right solution to dealing with disasters that happened. However, not all people are ready and able to migrate to other places safer. Studies on the phenomenon of climate-forced migration have not received much attention adequate, although the implications will affect the constellation of urban development. Hence, policy which is conducive to facilitating and directing climate change migration patterns in the city of Semarang necessary so that city development is more planned.
