Prevention of the Dengue Fever Campaign

The dengue fever rate in Semarang is included the highest in Indonesia. The climate changes with the humidity levels which are changing, recently has deteriorated the spread of dengue. It is because the importance to increase the capacity of the authorities, and last but not least, the public participation. The prevention of the dengue fever campaign, through the program called ACTIVE, together with the Semarang City Health Office held a socialization activity at the Semarang City Hall, Sunday, April 24, 2016.

The ACTIVE aims to reduce the number of the disease cases disease vector based in Semarang, especially the dengue fever. The ACTIVE program currently under goes at 6 villages, and the highlight of the program is the prevention of the dengue fever campaign which has done with the Semarang City Health Office and Mercy Corps Indonesia and attended by the Mayor of Semarang City, Hendrar Prihadi. There are various activities such as green walk, talk shows and also a series of competitions followed by various participants as jumantik officers, small physician or the other public health agencies.

The campaign in this program emphasizes that the handling of the dengue fever should involve a variety of the stakeholders, even children and students should also be involved in, how the dangers of dengue fever is. The tagline is, “Jentik Hilang, Nyamuk Melayang”.

Based on the data owned by the Semarang City Health Office until April 2016,the patient of the dengue fever in Semarang is amounted to 939 people, mean while in March 2016 there are 388 patients was recorded. If we compared in March last year, there are 325 patients, and the number of dengue fever patients throughout the 2015 is 1739.

In his speech, the Mayor of Semarang said, “the increasing number of the dengue fever patients require a vigilance for all Semarang citizens to get together in preventing the dengue fever by doing PSN regularly, using fish-eating larvae,using mosquito nets, using trousers for students to school as well as the other ways to prevent this. We must optimize all available means to prevent dengue fever. “

In such circumstances, Hendi, greeting of Hendrar Prihadi, also launched a nearly warning system developed by DKK Semarang and Mercy Corp. The system is in the form of input from the jumantik cadres (larva monitoring) reported via SMS gateway to the Semarang City Health Office. Once processed, and then sent to each village chief in the form of detailed data on each RW about the larva free rate (ABJ).In addition to the data on its territory of ABJ, when the weather is extreme the early prevention system will receive input from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) and subsequently sent to the Head of Village / Head of District that contains data about the weather and humidity. This is very important to give the level of moisture will affect the breeding of the mosquito larvae, so the Head of Village can take appropriate measures to eradicate the larva.
