Semarang City is one of the cities in Central Java that has great potential for flooding. One of the causes of floods that occurred in Semarang City is the habits of the community of Semarang City not managed the waste properly. As a support for the government of Semarang City, Initiative for Urban Climate Change and Environment ( IUCCE ) in collaboration with Mercy Corps Indonesia with funding from the Z-Zurich Foundation, conducts the Zurich Flood Resilience Program in the West Flood Canal Area of Semarang City. Some activities conducted by Zurich Flood Resilience Program in West Flood Canal Area of Semarang City are Organic and Inorganic Waste Management Training for Bendan Dhuwur Sub-district, Sampangan Sub-district, Manyaran Sub-district, Krobokan Sub-district, and Panggung Kidul Sub-district in West Flood Canal Area of Semarang City.
Previously, a field trip was conducted by community representatives in the 5 sub-districts to Sukunan Village and Gemah Ripah Bantul to learn how to process waste properly and how waste has high economic value. Therefore, Organic and Inorganic Waste Management Training is conducted to provide education related to organic waste processing that is composting and inorganic waste processing that is making of garbage craft. The trainer in this training is participant of field trip, and the participant of this training is representative of community of Bendan Dhuwur Sub-district, Sampangan Sub-district, Manyaran Sub-district, Krobokan Sub-district, and Panggung Kidul Sub-district.
Organic and Inorganic Waste Management Training followed by 10 people from each representative 5 Sub-district in West Flood Canal Area of Semarang City. This training begins with introduction and opening by the IKUPI team, namely Mrs. Mega Anggraeni. She explain the background of organizing this Organic and Inorganic Waste Management Training. The next event is the explanation of the garbage material with 3R by Ms.Sri Febri Harjati. In the explanation, she explain about the types of garbage, and how to sort the waste properly.
After the opening and exposure, the next event is practice of composting led by Mrs. Kusmiyati. Participants are shown how to process organic waste, which can be used to make compost. Learn from the knowledge that can be in the field trip to Sukunan Village, she taught the participant to make a replacement from the EM4 liquid activator. Make the liquid activator is fairly easy. The fruits that have been decomposed, mixed with 1 liter of water that does not contain chlorine or other chemicals.
In addition to training to make compost with organic waste in daily life, training for inorganic waste is also done that is making crafts of flowers, wallets, and plates from plastic waste. Training for inorganic waste processing is led by Mrs. Triasih and Mrs. Sumarliyah. From Organic and Inorganic Waste Management Training is hoped more people in Bendan Dhuwur Sub-district, Sampangan Sub-district, Manyaran Sub-district, Krobokan Sub-district, and Panggung Kidul Sub-district that can implement the waste management activities properly in daily life.
